RedditSave Alternative: 5 Best Reddit Video Downloaders in 2025

I tried to download a 20-second video from Reddit last week.

Went to RedditSave (now called RapidSave). Pasted the link. Hit download. Got a video with no audio.

Tried again. Same result. Apparently Reddit changed something in their video player and half the online downloaders are broken now.

If you are looking for a RedditSave alternative that actually works in 2025, here is what I found after testing a bunch of options.

Why Reddit Videos Are Annoying to Download

Before we get into tools, here is why this is even a problem.

Reddit uses a video format called v.redd.it that separates audio and video into different files. When you download the video track, you often get a silent file. The audio lives in a separate stream.

Most online downloaders either do not merge them properly or grab only the video. This is why your downloads have no sound.

The good solutions handle this merge automatically. The bad ones... well, you get silent videos.

Option 1: RapidSave (Formerly RedditSave)

Let us start with the obvious. RedditSave rebranded to RapidSave and still exists at rapidsave.com.

Pros:

  • Fast and simple
  • Usually handles audio merge correctly
  • Minimal ads compared to alternatives

Cons:

  • No bulk download option
  • Sometimes fails on newer Reddit video formats
  • Have to copy-paste links one by one

If you need to download one or two videos occasionally, RapidSave still works most of the time. But it is not reliable for heavy use anymore.

Option 2: Viddit.red

This is my go-to when RapidSave fails.

Viddit.red has a clean interface and handles audio merge well. Just paste the Reddit video URL and it gives you download options.

Pros:

  • Works when RapidSave does not
  • Good audio quality
  • No registration required

Cons:

  • Limited to 720p even for higher quality videos
  • Cannot download entire threads or bulk content
  • Occasional timeout errors

For single video downloads in decent quality, Viddit.red is solid.

Option 3: Toolzin

If you need higher resolution, Toolzin often delivers where others fail.

It offers up to six resolution options including 1080p when available. The interface is slightly clunkier - it opens a preview tab before downloading - but it grabs full quality when the source supports it.

Pros:

  • Highest quality options
  • Accurate resolution matching
  • Works on most Reddit video types

Cons:

  • Extra click to preview before download
  • Slightly more ads than alternatives
  • Still no batch processing

For my own workflow, I use Wappkit Reddit which handles the audio merge locally and works offline. Has a 3-day trial, then $14/month with code BNWPJRLVJH. Not just for video downloads - also does subreddit research and post scraping.

Option 4: Desktop Apps (For Heavy Users)

If you download a lot of Reddit content, online tools get tedious. Copy-paste, wait, download, repeat.

Desktop applications solve this with batch downloading and queuing.

JDownloader 2 is the classic option. It is free, handles multiple downloads at once, and can parse entire Reddit pages. But it has a learning curve and feels bloated for simple tasks.

SnapDownloader is a paid option that supports Reddit plus 900+ other sites. It does up to 8K quality and has a cleaner interface than JDownloader. Overkill for occasional use.

Option 5: Browser Extensions

If you want one-click convenience without a full desktop app:

Video Downloader PLUS (Chrome) adds a download button directly to Reddit video posts. Works for most content types.

Reddit Enhancement Suite (RES) does not download directly but adds features that make finding and saving content easier.

The extension approach is convenient but less reliable. Reddit updates sometimes break them temporarily.

Quick Comparison

| Tool | Quality | Audio | Bulk | Cost | |------|---------|-------|------|------| | RapidSave | 720p | Usually | No | Free | | Viddit.red | 720p | Yes | No | Free | | Toolzin | 1080p | Yes | No | Free | | JDownloader | Max | Yes | Yes | Free | | SnapDownloader | 8K | Yes | Yes | Paid |

What Actually Works in 2025

The honest answer: none of these tools are perfect, and they all break occasionally when Reddit changes their video player.

For single videos, I use this order:

  1. Try RapidSave first (fastest when it works)
  2. Fall back to Viddit.red if audio fails
  3. Use Toolzin for high-quality needs

For batch downloading or regular use, a desktop tool saves significant time.

Why Video Downloads Keep Breaking

Reddit actively tries to prevent third-party downloads. They update their video player, change CDN structures, and add authentication requirements.

Every few months the landscape shifts. A tool that worked perfectly today might break next month.

The most reliable long-term approach is desktop apps that can be updated quickly when Reddit changes things. Web-based tools depend on their developers catching up.

Legal Note

Quick reminder: downloading content for personal use is generally fine, but redistributing or monetizing downloaded Reddit videos without permission violates copyright. Most content on Reddit is user-uploaded and copyright remains with original creators.

Use these tools responsibly.
